Celebrity Real Estate: Brian Bloom Calls Encino Home

Since we are in Encino today, there are three small updates to discuss before proceeding with this post.
  1. Tori Spelling finally sold her home on December 1, 2011 for $2,500,000. This was the SFValleyblog's first Celebrity Real Estate post so this property carries sentimental value. We wish Tori Spelling good luck with her new journey after losing close to $450K on the Encino property. Who says Real Estate always goes up?
  2. The circular Mid Century Modern home that looked like a Las Vegas night club from the 70's finally sold after dropping $1 million from original list price.
  3. Since Encino is close to Sherman Oaks, John Larroquette's short sale in Sherman Oaks finally closed at $549K (representing a loss of $221,007) which was on and off the market since June 2010 with an original asking price of $659K.

Back on November 17, 2011, the always informative Lauren Beale at L.A. Times Hot Property discussed Actor-Writer Brian Bloom's home purchase in Encino for $1,180,000 which was actually closed on September 9, 2011. You may be wondering who is Brian Bloom like myself as I had no idea when first reading about this purchase. A quick review at IMDB reveals that Mr. Bloom has had a long career going back to the mid 80's. He had a prominent role in the soap opera As The World Turns from 1983 - 1987. He quickly became tired of that shows hectic schedule and moved on to film where he starred in a number of made for TV films. After reviewing that list, then my brain clicked and I had that "oh I recognize that character." I grew up watching Bloom in movies and TV shows like Crash Course, Bandit (which was loosely based on Burt Reynolds role in the original film), and Melrose Place. That was in the late 80's and early 90's and he continued to act in a number of films till this day recently playing bad guy "Pike" in The A-Team with other projects coming up according to IMDB.

Okay, back to Real Estate. According to the listing this 3 Bed/4 Bath, 2,386 sqft home on 0.44 acres built in 1961 states:
This custom gated Zen retreat is minutes from Ventura Blvd. It is set high on it's own knoll, so this property is perfect for buyers demanding privacy. This 1-story home has 3 bedrooms, 3 ~~ baths, formal living, dining & breakfast rooms & den. The grounds were designed & developed by a master Japanese landscape architect over a 30 years period & have mature trees, waterfall, fountain, deck & black-bottom pool. Inside, you'll find unique architectural features, with wood & tile floors, a remodeled kitchen with stone counters, a breakfast bar, glass cabinets, garden window & many newer appliances. The bathrooms have all been remodeled. Large master suite is enhanced by an elegant master bath complete with travertine tile floors, marble counters & shelf, jetted spa tub, frame less glass doors & custom cabinetry. This home is a one-of-a-kind custom entertainer's delight, designed & remodeled for a special indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Lanai Road School per LAUSD Schoolfinder.
This property was last purchased on April 21, 2005 for $1,249,000 so it looks like the previous owners took a modest sized loss of $69K after originally trying to list for $1,299,000 in anticipation of making a small profit of $50k. Not too bad considering the home was last purchased at the peak of the real estate market and the rest of us common folk are experiencing at least 30% drawdown in equity values.

We welcome Brian Bloom to Encino and more importantly the SFV as we are big fans of Bloom's work growing up watching TV (which was the only thing we excelled at).
