Celeb R.E.: Pro Golfer Duffy Waldorf Unloads Northridge Mansion and Lists Another At A Loss

[Update January 22, 2014]: The second Northridge home was sold on August 20, 2013 for $630,000.

[Original Post]:

The name Duffy Waldorf (real name James Joseph Waldorf, Jr) might not ring a bell to the average dude on the street but for die-hard golfers, he is known for his loud wearing golf attire and who has been able to earn a decent $11.5 million career earnings on the PGA tour.

Waldorf was locally born in Los Angeles and attended UCLA where he was on the golf team from 1982 to 1985. He was a 2 time NCAA All-American, 1985 College Player of the Year, and was selected for the Walker Cup. His best Master's finish was T5 in 1996, U.S. Open T9 in 1994, The Open Championship T18 in 2002, and PGA Championship T9 in 1992.

Waldorf is a connoisseur of wine as you will see his wine cellar in the pictures below.

The home measures 5 Beds/5.5 Baths on 6,250 sqft on a total lot size of 0.5 acres built in 1988 but rebuilt in 2005 (shown below). The listing description states:
Welcome to one of the most beautifully executed, spectacular one story homes available. Rebuilt and finished in 2005, it features a terrific one story floor plan with a grand entry which includes a 25 foot ceiling and custom design details; gorgeous but warm and welcoming. Built around a great room with lots of seating arrangements, built-in home theater, stacked stone fireplace, 10' French doors and custom made, arched, wood windows. The kitchen opens to the great room, has a large granite island, cozy breakfast nook, commercial range, built in refrigerator and all the bells and whistles. Formal dining room is large and stately, next to a giant wine cellar with great display features and endless racks of storage for your collection. All bedrooms have bathrooms en suite with stone surfaces. High ceilings in all main rooms give a spacious feeling. Huge upstairs loft room could be a great music studio, game room or artist's studio. Amazing master BR. Large pool, giant water slide, large spa, boulders, waterfalls, putting green, spacious barbecue center with granite countertops, 4 car garage spaces. Multiple water features and gorgeous palm trees. Lighted, common tennis court. Quick access to the city, 405 Freeway and a number of excellent private schools.
This home was originally purchased by Waldorf on November 3, 2003 for $1,325,000. Waldorf first listed the home on June 18, 2012 for $2,349,000 which was sold on January 25, 2013 for $2,050,000 representing a reduction of $299,000. The difference between purchase and sold price is a positive $725,000 which doesnt factor commissions, taxes, carrying costs, and renovation expenses from 2005 which are difficult to estimate because the extent of the rebuild is unknown. So its possible that Waldorf sold this home at a loss.

The second home in Northridge (shown below) is located a couple of blocks north from the home discussed above which  appears to be an investment home that might be partially owned split with another investor. The home measures 3 Beds/2 Baths on 2,313 sqft on a total lot size of 0.25 acres built in 1951. This home was first listed on June 6, 2013 for $659,000 and later reduced to $639,000 on June 30, 2013. The home was originally purchased for $760,000 on July 5, 2007. Based on the current asking price and not factoring in other expenses, it appears that Duffy will experience at least a $100K loss. The listing description states:
Fully remodeled from top to bottom in 2008 and 2007. The owners spared no expense, improving an already attractive house. All tastefully executed. The lot is raised, resting above the street, enhancing the curb appeal. The setting is quiet, no major streets nearby. The home has updated windows, a kitchen to die for with granite, newer cabinets with soft closing drawers and stainless steel appliances, including a very nice commercial style range, oven and a warming drawer. Separate tankless hot water system serves the kitchen. Filtered water for drinking, and soft water for the house. The bathrooms are finished in stone, nice cabinets, and attractive fixtures, all high end. Security system, central vacuum. The yard is lush with beautiful roses, 53 in all!, citrus trees (lime, lemon, tangerine, orange). nice fence work and mature trees. Probably the nicest house you will see this year in this price range. Nice curb appeal and even nicer interior. Good sized bedrooms, roomy kitchen. Perfect house ready to go! Not a spec remodel, done well, done right. Close to lots of great private and magnet school options(Balboa Magnet, Northridge Academy, Highland Hall Waldorf School, and others) good freeway access to the 405, 118, and shopping.

Other properties owned by Waldorf include the following:

Waldorf owned a home in the gated community of Macmillan Ranch in the Sand Canyon area of Santa Clarita (shown below). This home measures 6 Beds/4.25 Baths on 4,748 sqft on a total lot size of 1.98 acres built in 1984. This home was most recently sold on August 18, 2009 as a foreclosure for $900K and later sold for $1 million on December 30, 2009. This home also has a putting green but no wine cellar based on pictures. The listing description states:

Waldorf owned another Santa Clarita home (shown below) I believe as an investment that measures 4 Beds/2 Baths on 1,938 sqft on a total lot size of 9,548 sqft built in 1978. Waldorf purchased this home for $390,000 on January 27, 2004 with a 50% ownership interest and sold for a $345,000 profit on September 19, 2007 for $735,000. The listing description states:

Waldorf owned or continues to own a 7500 sqft commercial building on Burbank Blvd in Burbank which Waldorf might have partial ownership (shown below).

Here is a bonus home. Waldorf's parents own a modest Tarzana home south of Ventura Blvd (shown below) that may have been the home where Duffy was raised. This home measures 3 Beds/2 Baths on 1,496 sqft on a total lot size of 8,830 sqft built in 1956 with a ridiculously low property tax of $1,152 in 2011 suggesting this home has been owned for a very long time. Waldorf's parents also own a 2 Bed/1 Bath Van Nuys home not shown here.

So the question becomes where is Duffy living and does it have a wine cellar for his extensive collection as well as a putting green?
