The Eagle's Nest in Chatsworth

[Update January 22, 2014]: This home finally sold for $1,800,000 on August 25, 2013 in what appears to be a almost a decade of trying to sell this unique property.

[Original Post]:
9861 Andora Avenue
This house known as the Eagle's Nest in Chatsworth has been available off and on since 2007 when it first appeared at a staggering $9.5 million. The price was later reduced to $4.9 million in 2010. Then in 2011, the price was dropped to $2.9 million. Currently its being offered for $2.3 million. Thats one heck of a price chop in 5 or so years.

The home measures 5 Beds/6 Baths on 7,018 acres on a total lot of 37.54 acres built in 1975. I am have no  idea who is the architect or the historical background of this home. However, it does bear resemblance to the Mat House in Reseda. Also, this home is located right next door to the contaminated Rocketdyne site, the former Frank Sinatra home, and the Roy Rogers estate.

Back in the mid to late 90's the owner of this site was proposing to add 19 single family homes which met much resistance from the residents of Chatsworth who feared the loss of the natural habitat. According to this article by Summer Nicholson published in the LA Times on May 07, 1995 titled Development Threatens Chatsworth Outcrops:
There are four pages in the draft environmental impact report (available at the Chatsworth Public Library, 21052 Devonshire St.) regarding massive grading, covering and "ripping" the Chatsworth craggy mountains. The amount of rock destruction, not including access roads, would be equivalent to 117 average-size homes of 2,000 square feet.
So what's the big deal? They are only rocks!
Considering that these rock outcrops--"sculptures," some call them--are 60 million to 70 million years old, and there is only one other such rock formation like it in North America, it is a big deal! A very big deal.
Such a big deal that the communities of Chatsworth, Los Angeles city, Los Angeles County and Ventura County have aligned to obtain long-term protection for the remaining Chatsworth craggy mountains.
You can read the draft environmental impact report published in May 1997 here. One last thing, its been mentioned before that the Captain and Tennille used to live here which is incorrect that I explained in the Back To The Future series post on the Rumbo Recorders studio in Canoga Park featuring Guns 'N' Roses.

  1. The jerk who was renting it in late 2011 or early 2012 raced down the hill in his truck to swear at and threaten my friend and I (two females) when we got lost hiking in Chatsworth Oaks Park. He was going to sic his dogs on us as well. I hope the house sold to someone decent!

    1. Hello Miss Marty, I'm a friend of the guy in the truck with the most kind hearted and obedient dogs ever, that you encounter by being lost on the property near the house !!! I was also a caretaker of the house and property... I don't know if he has ever read this ??? But, can assure you that he is not a jerk that you called him !!! In fact he us a Super Nice Person and a Great individual !!! I know the property very well and if he had a dollar for every person that Traspassed on the property and said that they were lost !!! He could have easily purchased the house at the $2 million Dollar mark !!! There were signs posted everywhere saying that it was, "Private Property" and that Trasspassers would be Arrested !!! But, nobody ever read those signs or just flat down ignored them ??? I truly believe that you and other people did get lost there, which was easy to do... And I will apologize to you for him !!! The Santa Susanna Pass Hiking Trail was right next to the Property Line !!! And the signs were there aswell... All over the property line !!! What you don't know ??? Is that at least a 100+ Hikers would use that Trail, per week !!! And somehow would always manage to end up at or very near the house !!! Also, in the same note... Many people would go there with malicious intentions to steal from the house and or burglarize it... Others went there to take from the Landscape, Rocks, Boulders, Plants, wildlife and or deface the Landscape with Graffiti and or maybe arson !!! Which he was completely responsible for the whole 37.5 acres !!! The house was also known to belong to Sonny and Cher... So many people wanted to get a glimpse of them, maybe intrude in their private lives !!! So I hope that maybe you can understand the frustration that it was sometimes to live in such a secluded place and that large land of property !!! He has moved on in life and is no longer there !!! I hope that you accept my long overdue apology in his behalf !!! I was surfing the internet and was thinking about the house and property ... Which I miss dearly... When I came across your comment... And I figured the least I could do is reply to you as a caring person which my friend was a Great example for me to learn from !!! Hope this reply finds you well and understanding of what is was sometimes to be responsible for such a large property in the edge of the City of Chatsworth !!! Have A Great Day !!! Sincerely, The Guy with Truck's Friend ...
