A Tarzana estate with a possible connection to Hogan’s Heroes actor Larry Hovis has hit the market for $4 million. Located at 19808 Sleepyhollow Lane, the property combines nearly an acre of grounds with a swimming pool, private tennis court and panoramic views.
The historical connection comes from a January 1970 Los Angeles certificate of occupancy naming Larry Hovis as the owner. Whether that was the actor who played Sgt. Andrew Carter remains unconfirmed, but the document provides an intriguing lead into the property’s past.
A 1970 record names Larry Hovis
The city certificate, issued January 22, 1970, covers an 18-by-12-foot living-area addition to an existing one-story house with an attached garage. It lists both the building and the owner’s address as 19808 Sleepy Hollow Lane, using a slightly different spelling from today’s listing.
That places an owner named Larry Hovis at the address while Hogan’s Heroes was still airing. Hovis played the sitcom’s demolition expert, Sgt. Carter, during its 1965–1971 run. His television work also included Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., The Andy Griffith Show and Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. Career background
The matching owner and property addresses support a residential connection, although the certificate alone does not establish the owner’s identity as the actor or the length of his association with the house.
A tennis court estate in the Tarzana hills
Today, the property is considerably larger than the one-story dwelling described in that early record. The current listing advertises an open floor plan, high ceilings and stone floors, with six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms spread across 7,662 square feet.
The grounds are a major part of the appeal. Set at the end of a cul-de-sac, the property has room for a pool, covered cabana, lighted tennis court and expansive lawns, all accompanied by views across the surrounding hills and Valley. The listing markets the home as a renovation opportunity, giving a future buyer considerable space to work with. Property details
