The San Fernando Valley Blog preserves the people, places and stories of the Valley—past, present and future. It is a guide to the neighborhoods, buildings, businesses, homes and cultural landmarks that have shaped the SFV.

Our Mission

The San Fernando Valley has evolved from ranch land and citrus groves into a center of postwar suburban growth, aerospace, entertainment, architecture and real estate. With that growth, many familiar places have changed or disappeared.

This blog documents those changes and connects each story to the larger history of the Valley. The goal is not simply to remember what was here, but to explain what replaced it, how a neighborhood changed and why the story still matters.

How the Stories Are Told

Articles combine historical images, postcards, maps, property records, contemporary reporting and on-the-ground context whenever those sources are available. Dates, ownership and architectural claims are presented carefully, with documented facts distinguished from reported or unverified information.

About the Marty McFly Byline

SFV Blog stories are published under the pseudonym Marty McFly, a nod to the blog’s original Back to the Future history series. The name reflects the site’s central idea: travel into the Valley’s past, return to the present and compare what changed along the way.

The archive has grown beyond that original series to cover the full range of Valley history, real estate, architecture, celebrity homes, filming locations, postcards, landmarks and neighborhood stories.
