A 1963 residence on Queen Victoria Road is back on the market for $2,695,000, bringing another example of Forest Hills' postwar architecture into view. Marketed as Château des Bois—“Château of the Woods”—the single-story home combines a French-influenced exterior with recently renovated interiors and a tree-lined pool setting.
The current listing describes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and 3,041 square feet of living space. The city's historic resources survey identifies the house as an example of Late Hollywood Regency and finds it eligible for consideration for local historic designation.
A wooded setting and a French-influenced renovation
Mature trees frame the cream-colored façade, while the dark mansard roof, narrow windows, and prominent chimney give the front elevation its distinctive profile. The twilight listing photographs emphasize that composition, with illuminated windows and front steps set against the surrounding greenery.
According to the current listing, the renovation followed a two-year design process. The photographs show pale kitchen cabinetry, richly veined stone, brass-toned hardware, and a dark freestanding island beneath globe pendants.
In the living room, paneled walls and a white mantel frame a dark stone fireplace. A curved sofa, striped armchair, and patterned rug add texture, while tall windows maintain the connection to the landscape. At the rear, a curving swimming pool sits beside a covered terrace and planted borders.
Forest Hills and the architecture of Queen Victoria Road
Queen Victoria Road is one of the principal streets of Forest Hills, a wooded enclave within Woodland Hills. Angeleno Living's neighborhood guide describes it as a 1950s tract once marketed as the “Bel Air of the Valley.” The guide identifies Queen Victoria Road, Queen Florence Lane, and Deodar Lane as its core streets, noting mature tree cover, stone entrance pillars, and stonework carried through the neighborhood.
The homes along Queen Victoria also show that postwar development here accommodated more than one architectural approach. 5012 Queen Victoria Road has a 1959 construction date in the property information displayed by Redfin. Farther along the same street, 5000 Queen Victoria Road, previously featured on SFV Blog, was designed and built by Ebbe Videriksen in 1965 as his own home and an early base for his architectural practice.
That mix of dates and designs gives useful context to 4963's own history. Its 1963 construction places it within Forest Hills' midcentury development, while its Regency vocabulary offers a different architectural approach from Videriksen's modernist home nearby.
Historic-Cultural Monument eligibility
The city survey evaluated 4963 Queen Victoria Road. HistoricPlacesLA records a 1963 construction date and identifies the residence as an excellent example of Late Hollywood Regency architecture. Its SurveyLA status code, 5S3, indicates that it appears individually eligible for local designation, including consideration as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM). This finding establishes survey eligibility; it does not establish that HCM designation has been approved.
The city's individual resources inventory documents the property's 1963 date, Late Hollywood Regency style, and status codes 3S, 3CS, and 5S3. The HistoricPlacesLA status-code guide explains the distinction between survey eligibility and designation.
