Fresh on the MLS is the longtime Encino home of Hollywood legends, Jayne Meadows and Steve Allen, listed for $4,488,888 on August 16, 2015. Meadows recently passed away on April 26, 2015 at the age of 95 in this home while her husband, Steve Allen, passed away on October 30, 2000 due to a heart attack resulting from the shock of a car accident at his son's, William, Encino home.

Meadows was a stage, film, and TV actress that was nominated for three Emmy awards. Allen is a musician, composer, actor, comedian, and writer who started in radio but is better known for his TV work. He became the first host of The Tonight Show where he also developed the concept of the television talk show. He also penned over 14,000 songs and won a Grammy for 1964's Best Original Jazz Composition. Allen made millions of dollars from his television shows, his commercials for Mocha Mix creamer and Restonic mattresses, his lectures and royalties on the 8,500 songs that put him in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "most prolific composer of modern times." According to the R.E. listing, Meadows and Allen purchased the home in 1958 which is a heck of a longtime to live in the same property. They did a good job of maintaining the property all these years as can be seen in the pics below.

The home measures 5 Beds/7 Baths on 7,542 sqft on a total lot size of 1.15 acres built in 1951. The listing description states;
The Legendary Hilltop Estate of Steve Allen & Jayne Meadows! Surrounded by lavish estates in Royal Oaks is this private 1.1 acre walled & gated estate. One can only imagine the myriad of 20th Century Hollywood stars that were frequent guests of the Allen?s during their 57 years of residence. The motor court offers private parking for 12+ cars. Walking through the custom door you are welcomed into this spectacular & timeless mid-century residence. The formal living room has a picture window looking out to a tranquil setting. The family room offers a stone fireplace, walls of windows & doors looking out to the magnificent grounds, wet bar, built-in shelving & a custom staircase leading to an amazing office/media room with storage rooms & bath. There is a library that could be a wine cellar. Gracious formal dining room with high ceiling, stunning chandelier, a picture window & doors leading out to the grounds. In addition to the Encino home, Jayne Meadows owns a commercial building in Van Nuys that measures 4,720 sqft on a total lot size of 15,226 sqft built in 1969 that also appears to be a multi-decade ownership. The building is also home to Meadowlane Enterprises that lists Meadow's son, William, as President and was established in 1960.

  1. She spelled it 'Jayne'. And your 'Previous' navigation label is misspelled.

    1. Hi Randy. Thanks for the correction. I updated the post. Big error on my part that I should have detected.

  2. I m not expert, but I believe you just made an excellent point. You certainly fully understand what you are speaking about, and I can truly get behind that.
