527 Whiting Woods Road
2 Beds/2 Baths on 1,698 sqft on a total lot size of 0.26 acres in the Verdugo Mountains of Glendale. This home known as the Schaffer Residence was designed by renowned architect,
John Lautner, in 1949 who has designed many homes throughout Southern California up until the early 90's with several in the San Fernando Valley (which reminds me that I need to do a post showcasing Lautner's designs in the SFV to complement the
Richard Neutra in the SFV post). This home last sold on July 13, 2005 for $1,220,000 and was most recently sold on December 7, 2012 for $1,395,000.
This home sold with extreme difficulty as it was first listed on February 8, 2008 for $1,985,000, then reduced to $1,775,000, then to $1,573,000, then to $1,495,000 on February 7, 2011, and finally to $1,395,000 on January 27, 2012 representing a drop of $590,000 over 4 years which is not too bad considering all the ups and downs with the market during that timeframe. On November 5, 2012,
LA Curbed (you can also view more pics at that site) posted an interview with the homes listing agent,
Crosby Doe, regarding the difficulty of selling this home.
This home might be familiar to some as it was featured in the 2009 movie,
A Single Man, directed by Tom Ford (first picture shown below). You can view photos from that film at
imanotastalker.com. Also from the same website is that the 2005 film,
Happy Endings, also used this house.
