Celebrity Real Estate: The "Rock" Lists in Hidden Hills

[Update July 16, 2012]: This home sold on July 5, 2012 for $4 million which was close to $1 million less than the asking price and was completed in roughly two months.

Hot off the presses from Trulia Luxe Living is Dwayne Johnson's aka "The Rock" home listing in Hidden Hills for $4,995,000 on May 10, 2012. 

Dwayne Johnson who goes by the name "The Rock" from his WWE days was born in Hayward, California. Johnson originally started in college football with a brief stint for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League before being cut after 2 months. Consequently he pursued a career in professional wrestling and as the saying goes, "the rest his history." Johnson became one of the most successful professional wrestlers having won a total of 16 championships. He also voted third by fans for his microphone ability behind Roddy Piper and Stone Cold Steve Austin who placed second and first respectively. Johnson parlayed his wrestling skills onto the big screen with a leading acting role in 2002's The Scorpion King.  Johnson would continue to act in popular films such as The Mummy Returns, Get Smart, Tooth Fairy, Gridiron Gang, and Fast Five to name a few. 

According to the listing, this is a 6 Bed/6.25 Bath, 9,120 sqft mansion on 0.92 acres built in 1991. Since this is a Hidden Hills mansion, you know the home was built with no expenses spared and also includes a psuedo barber shop where I guess Johnson groomed himself. The listing states:

Sleek gourmet kitchen features granite triangle center island, stainless appliances & breakfast banquet. This estate has Crestron automated home system throughout. Truly a one-of-a-kind home w/ impeccable attention to quality & detail. This prestigious community boasts award-winning schools, hiking/horse trails.
According to the Redfin listing, this home was last sold on December 16, 2011 for $1 million which doesnt make sense. However,  property records indicate that Johnson last purchased this home for $4,695,000 on April 29, 2003. Upon further research, it looks like Johnson may have originally purchased (or was part of the original home purchase) an adjoining parcel directly south of the home (see image below) measuring 59,390 sqft or 1.36 acres that appears to be for equestrian use with a building that looks like horse stables. Its possible that Johnson sold this part of the property separately for $1 million late last year and is now selling the home. This is all speculation so dont quote me, just taking a wild guess. If Johnson closes at the current asking price he stands to make $300,000 not including commissions, taxes, and other related expenses. Additionally, if he did sell the adjoining parcel, than that is an extra $1 million profit in the bank. Not bad for a former wrestler. But keep in mind there is some competition down the street on a similar sized home with an asking price of $3.299 million.

Not sure why Johnson is moving but Trulia Luxe Living notes that Johnson's wife most likely lives in the Hidden Hills estate separately from Johnson after their divorce in May 2008. Johnson owns other properties throughout the country including a mansion in Florida that he recently purchased for $3.4 million in March 2012

  2. Ron Tutor (Construction) who previously leased to Britney Spears and is currently available for less than $10 million.
  3. Beau Bridges (actor) who is trying to sell for under $3 million.
  4. Tamar Braxton and Vincent Herbert (music) who recently purchased for close to $7 million.
  5. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne (music/reality) who are trying to sell for close to $13 million.
  6. Taylor Hawkin's (Foo Fighters music) purchase of a former Howie Mandel mansion for $2.7 million.
  7. Morris Chestnut's short sale for $2.3 million.
  8. Also, the Kardashians/Jenners live in this area.
