[Update May 6, 2012]: This home sold on May 4, 2012 for $1.8 million which was $395,000 less than the original asking price of $2,195,000 on February 1, 2012. It took about roughly 4 months for this home to sell not including the prior listing in 2009. Based on the last purchase price of $1,650,000, Davis made a gain of $150,000 not including taxes, commissions, and other related expenses. However, when I originally posted this, I failed to recognize that Eric Davis listed this home as a short sale so there was in fact no gain and the bank(s) took a loss against this property. I am not sure where Davis is headed to but its possible he moves to his Reseda home shown below at the very bottom of this post.
What has become a uprising trend is that short selling is becoming popular with celebrities who show no pretension to move on from a money losing situation as evidenced by the list below which only represents the San Fernando Valley:
- John Larroquette's (actor) short sale in Sherman Oaks
- Bryon Russells' (basketball) foreclosure in Calabasas
- Kristen Bell's (actress) Studio City foreclosure
- Richard Fortus' (GNR music) short sale in Woodland Hills
- Morris Chestnut (actor) short sale in Hidden Hills

Hot off the presses from the always informative Lauren Beale at Los Angeles Times Hot Property comes word of baseball great, Eric Davis, latest re-listing of his longtime Calabasas home in the Mountain View Estates area on February 2, 2012 for $2,195,000
.
Eric Davis is a former center fielder for several Major League Baseball teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1992 - 1993. Eric Davis was born in Los Angeles and attended Fremont High School. He skipped college to pursue Major League Baseball. His career began in 1984 where he was being compared to the likes of Hall of Famer Willie Mays. Unfortunately, he was injury prone and never played more than 135 games in any season. He also reached another setback in May 1997 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He fought and overcame this illness in a great show of inspiration to return for the 1997 American League Championship Series where he hit a game winning home run. Included in his accomplishments are 2x All Star, 1990 World Series champion, 3x Gold Glove award, 2x Silver Slugger Award, 1997 Roberto Clemente Award, 1997 Hutch Award, 1997 Tony Conigliaro Award, 1996 NL Comeback Player of The Year Award, and 1989 Home Run Derby winner. He currently works in the front office of the Cincinnati Reds organization.

This home was originally purchased on July 20, 2001 for $1,650,000 which means that Davis stands to make a profit of $545,000 before any expenses, taxes, commissions, etc. This isnt the first time Eric Davis listed this home as he originally listed back on January 17, 2009 for $2,399,000 which was covered by
Mister Big Time at
Big Time Listings back on April 16, 2009. So we wish Eric Davis luck in offloading his property as the housing market has gone nowhere but down and he will be competing with similar properties like former Los Angeles Laker
Bryon Russell's foreclosed home currently under escrow at the significantly reduced price of $1.35 million.
Eric Davis is no stranger to the San Fernando Valley as he has made the West Valley his home base since the 1980's. Prior to the Calabasas home, he lived in Woodland Hills which was purchased some time in 1985 or 1986 for an unknown price. According to the property records, the home was built in 1979 and renovated in 1987. It appears that Eric Davis may have purchased two parcels and demolished to build one mega home based on the images below from Google Maps and
Historicaerials.com (1980). Based on the size of nearby homes, this home looks like double those homes as well as there are two driveways suggesting that the second driveway was for the second home. This is just speculation so dont quote me. This home also appears to have underground parking under the full basketball court but its hard to confirm from the aerial views. You will also notice in the pool, that Eric Davis' jersey number from the Cincinnati Reds, 44, is inscribed into the pool. This home was sold on
October 31, 2001 for
$1,050,000. The only downfall for this home and could be the reason why Eric Davis moved is that the home is right next to the 101 on ramp entrance off Burbank and Topanga which is a nightmare in the morning rush hour commutes. Additionally, there is little privacy.

Eric Davis and his wife, Sherrie also own a modest 3 Bed/2 Bath 1524 sqft home in Reseda not too far from the Northridge hospital that was purchased on July 30, 1990 for $267,000. I am not sure in what capacity this home has been used but I am guessing it was for a friend, relative, or investment as I cant imagine Eric Davis calling Reseda home especially the size of this home with all due respect to the Davis' and Reseda.

According to the LA Times Hot Property article,
The couple will scale down to a smaller single-level home in the area, according to their listing agent, David Yobs of Prudential California Realty. With their children grown, they don't need as large a home anymore, Yobs said.
This suggests that the Davis will probably settle down in Woodland Hills or West Hills as Calabasas consists mostly of the McMansions and are simply too big. Its good to hear that the Davis' are still sticking to their San Fernando Valley roots.
